CLIC Scientific Annual Meeting (9-11 October 2023)

The 2023 Childhood Cancer and Leukemia International Consortium (CLIC) Scientific Annual Meeting was held on October 9-11, 2023 at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, Washington, USA. Throughout the meeting, we heard from prominent scientists in the pediatric oncology field. They spoke about their current cancer research, outcomes research methods, genomic research, and other ongoing epidemiological studies. Our CLIC members gave brief updates on their projects and shared posters and abstracts. The meeting also included time for general discussion about genomic resources and the plan to incorporate genetically-derived data, proposals for new projects, and the future of CLIC. The 2023 CLIC Scientific Meeting was hosted by Chair Logan Spector, PhD through the generous support of National Cancer Institute (R01 Grant) and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Seattle).

CLIC Consortium Meeting on October 3-5, in Barcelona, Spain

Members of the CLIC consortium will reconvene for a face-to-face meeting to be held October 3-5, 2022, in Barcelona, Spain, hosted by the Division of Epidemiology/Clinical Research, Department of Paediatrics, University of Minnesota with the help of the Environment and Lifestyle Epidemiology Branch of IARC.

With its scientific presentations by invited speakers and from within the consortium, and exchanges on ongoing and future projects of the consortium, this meeting will be an opportunity for starting new initiatives, in particular on other types of childhood cancer than leukaemia. In addition, the two largest worldwide consortia on the aetiology of childhood cancers and leukaemia meet during a joint session; this will be the third opportunity for CLIC and I4C to meet in joint sessions to discuss areas in which they can complement each other and find synergies for collaborations between the two consortia.

Members of the CLIC consortium came together in a virtual meeting held March 28-30, 2022, co-hosted by the Division of Epidemiology/Clinical Research, Department of Paediatrics, University of Minnesota and the Environment and Lifestyle Epidemiology Branch of IARC.

Having brought together nearly sixty researchers from around the world, the program offered scientific sessions presenting the recent work of eminent researchers on childhood cancer aetiology, but also an update of the recent results of pooled work in progress carried out within the framework of the consortium, as well as discussions on setting up future projects, new initiatives and ideas.

CLIC foundation

We are happy to announce that the CLIC foundation was created in 2020.

The CLIC foundation thus organizes fundraising to improve the research efforts of the CLIC consortium, in particular support for the data sharing infrastructure for genomic and non-genomic data, specific pooled analysis and the annual scientific meeting, to help develop and support collaborations between epidemiologists, clinicians, tumor biologists, geneticists, immunologists, toxicologists and / or statisticians.

Do you also want to support research? Please visit the foundation's website: https://www.clic.ngo/

Thanking you all in advance!

Age-, sex- and disease subtype-related foetal growth differentials in childhood acute myeloid leukaemia risk:  A Childhood Leukemia International Consortium analysis
Karalexi MA, Dessypris N, Ma X, Spector LG, Marcotte E, Clavel J, et al.

Evidence for an association of foetal growth with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) is inconclusive. AML is a rare childhood cancer, relatively more frequent in girls, with distinct features in infancy. In the context of the Childhood Leukemia International Consortium (CLIC), we examined the hypothesis that the association may vary by age, sex and disease subtype using data from 22 studies and a total of 3564 AML cases.
